Welcome to the PBL course. This course has been especially designed to immerse you in the design, implementation, assessment and management of project- based experiences.
It's packed with short lessons, anecdotes, case studies and activities for you to take action immediately.
The course layout includes five interactive modules that are part learning and part application. As you learn, I hope you will engage with your fellow peers in the comment section, and with your developing projects through the accompanying workbook. By the end of the course, you will walk away with a fully developed project- based experience that you are ready to implement with students right away.
In the course, you will learn:
- The major components of successful project- based experiences
- The difference between Project- Based Learning and 'Doing Projects'
- The starting point for project design
- How to design and deliver your own project- based experiences fo students which includes:
- How to create a driving question
- How to envision a product/ outcome for the experience
- How to incorporate rigorous content standards and skills (regardless of your curriculum)
- How to assess PBL experiences
- How to plan and implement a project launch
- How to manage projects using simple project management tools
- How to foster student growth in the project
- How to develop external partnerships with local businesses and the community
- How to assess projects for 21st century skills and incorporate rigorous standards

Your Instructor
Kyle Wagner is the Middle School Programme Director at IMS in Hong Kong and a consultant for innovative schools all over the world. As a Curriculum Designer and former Project- Based Learning Teacher Leader at High Tech High, a school featured in the hit documentary "Most Likely to Succeed," Kyle knows how to guide project development to ensure it transforms student learning. He believes in the 'Power of Simple' and has authored a book and numerous articles on how school leaders can lead change through simple, repeatable strategies. Kyle holds a Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership and two supplemental teaching authorisations. When not writing or consulting with school leaders, Kyle enjoys traveling the world and writing original music for his band.
